Ruthmere Foundation

The Ruthmere Foundation Inc. strives to inspire the imagination and promote excellence in fine arts, architecture and historic preservation to advocate life-long learning and the entrepreneurial spirit. In 2006 it purchased the Havilah Beardsley House, the 1848 home of Elkhart’s founder, with the intent to execute a full-scale historic restoration.

With funding from ECCF, the purchase and installation of a museum-quality environmental control HVAC system will help preserve this oldest residence in the city, allowing its use as a venue for high-profile traveling exhibits that will provide Elkhart County residents and visitors with an opportunity to enhance local education, arts and culture.

    Ruthmere is one of my favorite places to shoot as a professional museum photographer. If you have not visited I highly encourage you to go. You will be amazed at the innovation and opulence of this home. I have had the pleasure of being there on many occasions and on each visit I discover new and amazing things. This is truly a local and regional treasure.
